LABMUNDO at the 2026 LASA International Congress
Between 26 and 30 May 2026, the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) held its annual international conference in Paris (France). To take part in this event of great significance for the study of our region, the World Political Analysis Laboratory sent two representatives: Labmundana researcher Anna Carolina Raposo de Mello and our coordinator Rubens de S. Duarte, who presented their work in various sessions of the programme.

On the first day of the event, Anna Carolina chaired the panel discussion Democratic Recessions Compared: Brazil and the United States, featuring participants such as Abraham F. Lowenthal (USC) and Anthony Pereira (Tulane University), amongst others. On the final day, 30 May, the internationalist presented her paper Fighting for Latin America: the Brazilian Far Right’s main narrative dispute and its consequences for regional foreign policy during the panel discussion Brazil’s Domestic Policy. On Thursday 28 May, Prof. Duarte organised the panel Climate and Security, during which he presented his research entitled The Military as Actors in Brazil’s Foreign Policy on Climate: An Analysis through the Lens of Public Policy.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the Association’s founding, LASA 2026 brought together academics from across the globe who specialise in the study of Latin America for an extensive programme of academic panel discussions, centred on this year’s theme, Republic and Revolution.
