LABMUNDO at the 15th ABCP National Conference
Between 3 and 6 August 2026, the campus of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) in Belém hosted the 15th Conference of the Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP). Under the theme Worlds in flux, democracies in struggle: 40 years on, the event celebrated the Association’s four decades of activity, bringing together political scientists from various regions of Brazil and from a range of educational and research institutions for an extensive programme of thematic sessions, panel discussions, regional forums, book launches, short courses and workshops.
Comprising mainly researchers in the field, the LABMUNDO team was present to outline our research agenda during various activities at the conference. Last Tuesday, 4 August, Prof. Rubens de S. Duarte, the Laboratory’s coordinator, took part in the thematic session Climate securitisation, environmental governance and international climate policy, presenting his research Climate securitisation and international policy: an analysis of the role of the military. The panel also featured Prof. Danielle Costa da Silva as a panellist. At the same time, researcher Mariana Castro presented her paper Climate Youth Movements between Brazil and Europe: Action at the COPs and Reconfigurations of Climate Policy in the session Political Confrontation and Social Movements.

The following day, Wednesday, featured three presentations by members of our team: Prof. Danielle Costa da Silva participated in the session Climate Change, Human Rights and Regime Complexes in Global Governance, presenting research entitled The Inter-American Perspective on the “Greening” of Human Rights: A Study of the Inter-American Human Rights System. Meanwhile, our coordinator, Prof. Pablo Saturnino, presented his research, Archives, Methods and Reviews: the use of primary sources from the Itamaraty Historical Archive in the renewal of the historiography of Brazilian foreign policy, as part of the session Brazilian Foreign Policy: Sources and Decision-Making Dynamics.
