LABMUNDO coordinator gives lecture at GIGA in Hamburg

On a research mission in Germany, LABMUNDO coordinator Prof. Pablo Saturnino gave a lecture entitled Democratisation and climate obstruction in Brazilin Hamburg on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, at the campus of the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA).

The study that informed the conference is part of the project Climate Obstruction and Foreign Policy in Comparative Perspective (PROBRAL CAPES DAAD UERJ/GIGA), an interinstitutional partnership between the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and GIGA. The meeting was attended by professors Ana Paula Tostes (IESP-UERJ/Jean Monnet Chair), Miriam Prys-Hansen (leader of the Global Orders and Foreign Policy project/GIGA), Detlef Nolte (German Council on Foreign Relations/GIGA), Merike Blofield (Institute for Latin American Studies/GIGA), Christiane J. Fröhlich (Peace and Security project/GIGA) and Bert Hoffman (Editor of the GIGA Focus Latin America series), as well as other researchers from the German Institute who participated remotely.

Coordinated by Prof. Tostes in Brazil and Prof. Prys-Hansen in Germany, the research network Climate Obstruction and Foreign Policy in Comparative Perspective has as one of its missions to promote mobilisation and interaction between academics from countries in the North and South, with a view to joint and innovative reflection on global climate obstruction.
