On Monday, 24 November 2025, the World Political Analysis Laboratory is proud to welcome Prof. Rita Floyd to give a lecture at our year-end plenary session. Starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Carlos Hasenbalg Room at the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ), the professor from the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) will present her latest research at the conference Right and wrong securitisation: Why ethics matters in security policy and how (not) to securitise. Presented in English, without simultaneous translation, the meeting will be open to all interested parties, not just members of the LABMUNDO team.

PhD from the Department of Political and International Studies at the University of Warwick, Rita Floyd is a Full Professor at the University of Birmingham, appointed Birmingham Fellow in Conflict and Security by the institution. She also serves as editor-in-chief of the International Affairs journal, published by Chatham House, and as a research associate at the Institute for Environmental Security (IES). She is the author of the book The Duty to Secure: From just to mandatory securitization (Cambridge University Press, 2024) and the article NATO and Climate Change (Defence Studies, 2025), as well as co-editor of the collection Environmental Security: Approaches, Issues and Actors (Routledge, 2025). Her teaching and research work focuses on the study of securitisation, with a special interest in the ethics of emergency policies, securitisation theory, and climate/environmental securitisation.

LABMUNDO plenary sessions are periodic meetings between our team, held in person at IESP-UERJ and intended for discussing the Laboratory’s research agendas, projects under development, and topics of common interest.
