Between 17 and 20 July 2024, LABMUNDO researchers Hugo Bras Martins da Costa and Leandro C. D. Conde took part in the 12th Congress of the Latin American Political Science Association (ALACIP), held at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE – Portugal).
During the event, the researchers, both post-doctoral fellows at the Graduate Programme in Military Sciences (PPGCM) of the Army Command and General Staff School (ECEME), discussed their current research in three thematic panels. Hugo Bras spoke on the panel Foreign Policy, Globalisation and International Relations: Brazil’s Foreign Policy, presenting his article Brazilian foreign policy and the peacekeeping agenda in the United Nations Security Council, co-written with Guilherme Moreira Dias (PPGCM-ECEME). Leandro Conde presented two papers: Reassessing the Dynamics of Chinese Development Financing in Latin America: A Critical Approach to International Political Economy, co-authored with Rafael Moura (FCE-UERJ) and presented at the Political Economy and Economic Policies. Inequality, Poverty and Income Redistribution: Contemporary Economic Theory panel; and Tensions between the Securitisation of Climate Change and Sovereignty in the Global South: A Multilevel Analysis, presented on the panel Foreign Policy, Globalisation and International Relations: Climate Change and Latin America.

The 2024 congress was centred on the theme of Latin America as a player in the reconfiguration of global geopolitics. Formed by academics, researchers and professionals, ALACIP is the main international scientific organisation aimed at promoting the development of Political Science studies on Latin America and the Caribbean. LABMUNDO’s active participation enriches the academic environment and reinforces our Laboratory’s commitment to encouraging the participation of its researchers in international events, with the goal of actively contributing to high-level international debates on the production of new knowledge in international politics and foreign policy.
