On 15 August 2023, LABMUNDO researcher Henrique Rabello de Carvalho had the honour of conducting an interview with former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, one of the greatest leaderships against discrimination and the Apartheid regime. Henrique spoke to President Motlanthe about democracy in South Africa, LGBTI+ rights and human rights, the role of trade unions, South African foreign policy and his term in office (2008 to 2009), among other subjects. The interview is part of the researcher’s PhD thesis project, Comparative analysis of Brazil and South Africa in search of international protagonism in the LGBTI+ rights agenda, being developed for the Graduate Programme in Political Science at IESP-UERJ under the supervision of Prof. Carlos R. S. Milani.
